The Californian giant Nvidia officially launched its cloud gaming service GeForce Now in India this Thursday, April 16. India, a market of 1.4 billion inhabitants where gaming is booming but high-end hardware remains out of reach for the majority of players. According to the Times of India, the service is powered by SuperPODs equipped with RTX 5080 GPUs, offering graphical quality comparable to a gaming PC worth several thousand euros.
Prices That Defy Competition
The price positioning is aggressive: the subscription starts at 999 rupees per month (approximately 11 euros), a price clearly below Western standards. According to All Things Geek, this pricing strategy has "immediately repositioned the entire Indian gaming market." A daily pass is also available for casual gamers.
A Context of Soaring Hardware Prices
The launch comes at a strategic moment: the prices of GPUs and RAM have increased significantly in recent months, making the assembly of a gaming PC even more expensive. According to The Hindu, Nvidia "is betting on the appetite of Indian players for high-end games" without requiring hardware investment. The service is compatible with PCs, Macs, Android smartphones, Chrome browsers, and connected TVs.
Cloud Gaming, The Future of Video Games?
With this launch, Nvidia extends its GeForce Now coverage to over 100 countries. The service offers access to over 2,000 games, including libraries from Steam, Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft Connect. Competition is fierce: Microsoft with Xbox Cloud Gaming and Sony with PlayStation Plus Premium already occupy this space, but neither has yet offered such low prices in the Indian market.
