Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the launch of an artificial intelligence tool specifically designed to accelerate the early stages of drug discovery. According to Reuters (April 14, 2026), this platform uses generative models to simulate molecular interactions and identify the most promising compounds, potentially reducing the traditional pharmaceutical R&D cycle by several years.

How does it work?

AWS's tool combines molecular diffusion models and graph neural networks to predict the three-dimensional structure of target proteins and simulate the binding of thousands of drug candidates in a matter of hours – where traditional methods require months of laboratory screening. Amazon claims the platform has already identified promising candidates for three therapeutic targets in oncology.

Fierce Competition

Amazon joins a highly competitive market: Google DeepMind (with AlphaFold), Microsoft (with its BioGPT platform), and startups like Recursion Pharmaceuticals and Insilico Medicine are investing heavily in AI applied to pharma.
